BAR-TAILED GODWIT, LIMOSA LAPPONICA, SZLAMNIK

 

The bar-tailed godwit, Limosa lapponica bird.

Males are average smaller than females.

Bar-tailed godwit measures:

Bill-to-tail length is 37–41 cm (15–16 in).

Males weigh 190–400 g (6.7–14.1 oz), females weigh 260–630 g (9.2–22.2 oz).

Wingspan 70–80 cm (28–31 in).

Adult bar-tailed godwit has blue-grey legs and a slightly upturned bi-colored bill. The neck, breast and belly are unbroken brick red in breeding plumage, off white in winter.

Bar-tailed godwit breeding each year in Scandinavia, Alaska and northern Asia. The nest looks like a shallow cup in moss sometimes lined with vegetation. Both share incubation of the eggs and care for the young.
